About Mike
20+ Years of Practice • Yoga Alliance Qualified
My journey into yoga began as a way to manage chronic back pain caused by arthritis, reduce stress and better understand the connection between body and mind. What started as a search for relief became a lifelong exploration of movement, breath and meditation. More than 20 years of yoga and a lifelong meditation practice have shaped the way I teach today. My approach is personal, practical and centred on helping people move with greater ease, strength and confidence while developing greater awareness of their body. When I first stepped onto a yoga mat, I was simply looking for a way to feel better physically and mentally. What I discovered went much deeper. Learning to breathe more consciously, move with greater awareness and release unnecessary tension gradually changed not only how I moved, but how I experienced everyday life. Alongside yoga, I have maintained a meditation practice rooted in Transcendental Meditation. Over the years, yoga has deepened that practice, bringing greater clarity, balance and steadiness into my daily life. For me, yoga and meditation naturally support one another. Now in my mid-sixties, I feel stronger, more mobile and more resilient than I did decades ago. That experience strongly influences my teaching, particularly for people navigating midlife and beyond who want to remain active, capable and confident. After qualifying as a Yoga Alliance teacher in 2020, I became increasingly interested in movement science, breathing, motor learning and the role of the nervous system in movement. Rather than replacing traditional yoga, these insights have helped me better understand how breath, awareness and mindful repetition can support more comfortable, confident movement. Alongside teaching at Dynamic Hot Yoga, I am currently studying towards accreditation in trauma-sensitive yoga and meditation, with a focus on supporting people who have experienced significant stress, trauma and adversity. This reflects my commitment to creating a practice that is supportive, inclusive and adaptable to the individual. More than twenty years after beginning my yoga journey, I still see myself as a student. Every person I teach deepens my understanding of yoga, movement and meditation. Sharing what I have learned while continuing to learn myself remains at the heart of my teaching.
