About Mike
20+ Years of Practice • Yoga Alliance Qualified
My journey into yoga began as a way to manage chronic back pain caused by arthritis, reduce stress and better understand the connection between body and mind. What started as a search for relief became a lifelong exploration of movement, breath and meditation. More than 20 years of yoga and a lifelong meditation practice have shaped a personalised approach that helps people move with greater ease, strength and confidence while cultivating greater awareness. Today, I combine traditional yoga with insights from movement science and nervous system research. Every private session is tailored to the individual, creating a supportive environment where you can move at your own pace, reconnect with your body and discover a practice that feels sustainable for life. When I first stepped onto a yoga mat, I was simply looking for a way to feel better—physically and mentally. What I discovered was something far more profound. Yoga wasn't simply changing how my body moved; it was changing how I related to myself. Learning to breathe more consciously, move with greater awareness and let go of unnecessary tension transformed the way I experienced both movement and life. Alongside yoga, I've maintained a meditation practice rooted in Transcendental Meditation. Over the years, yoga has profoundly deepened that practice, bringing greater clarity, emotional balance and inner steadiness into my daily life. For me, yoga and meditation are inseparable—each continually enriches the other. Now past my mid-sixties, I feel stronger, more mobile and more resilient than I did decades ago. That experience shapes my teaching, particularly for people navigating midlife and beyond who want to stay active, capable and confident. After qualifying as a Yoga Alliance teacher in 2020, I became fascinated by movement science, breathing, motor learning and the role of the nervous system in movement. That curiosity transformed my own practice and continues to shape the way I teach. Rather than replacing traditional yoga, it has helped me better understand how breath, awareness and mindful repetition can support better movement and a calmer, more resilient nervous system. Alongside teaching at Dynamic Hot Yoga, I'm currently studying towards accreditation in trauma-sensitive yoga and meditation, with a focus on supporting people who have experienced significant stress, trauma and adversity. This reflects my commitment to creating a practice that is safe, inclusive and accessible. More than twenty years after beginning my yoga journey, I still see myself as a student. Every person I teach continues to deepen my understanding of yoga, movement and meditation. Sharing what I've learned while continuing to learn myself is both my greatest motivation and my greatest privilege.
